What is an Upgrade?
Most PowerBASIC products are offered in an upgrade version, at a substantial discount in price. For example, while the PowerBASIC Console Compiler 4.0 is priced at $169, the upgrade version is only $89! What a bargain! But just what constitutes an upgrade? And how do you qualify for the upgrade price? Here is the complete description...
When you first purchase a PowerBASIC product, you must buy the full version. There's no way to avoid that. You'll receive the full product, at a price we believe is very competitive to that of other software vendors. However, when subsequent versions are released, we'll offer you a big discount on the upgrade software! It's just that simple.
Why offer upgrade discounts?
Many reasons. Our advertising and customer service costs are much lower. Our technical support expenses are greatly reduced, because you already understand the product. While you're still allowed to use the older version, you own a single-user license for any and all versions of the product. Only one may be used at a time. The fact is that our costs are lower for upgrades, and we're pleased to pass the savings along to you.
What can I do with the prior version?
When you buy an upgrade, any and all prior versions are combined into a single-user license. You can use any of the versions for your own purposes, as long as you only use one at a time. You can not sell a prior version unless you sell all versions of the product as a single package.
What constitutes a prior version?
Upgrade pricing is offered when one version of a product replaces a prior version of the same product. For example, PowerBASIC Console Compiler 3.0 can be upgraded to PowerBASIC Console Compiler 4.0. However, upgrades may never span across product lines. You can not upgrade PB/DOS to PB/Windows because one product does not replace the other.
Do I get everything in an upgrade?
Yes! When you buy an upgrade, you'll get all the software, documentation, and examples. Everything that's found in the full product. You'll just have to prove ownership of a prior version with serial numbers, codes, and presence of the prior software at time of installation.
