Hello all. What you think about Far file manager http://farmanager.com/default.asp http://www.rarlab.com/far/Far1705.exe I use it several years and i think that better then Windows Explorer. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Greetings! I agree, FAR is a great program. Lately I've been using Total Commander and I've been pleased with its functionality as well. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I too used Windows(Total) Commander. But at final count has preferred FAR. Why? He rather suitable exactly for programmer. Though probably difference between them small. But Far - as Linux. For it produces plugins(several hundred's) plenty of C++ programmer's. Regrettably example of the creation plugins in PB I did not see. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Thanks. I downloaded the stable version of FAR (over 3 years old!) and have found many things to like about it. In fact, one of my reasons for purchasing PB/CC was to write a console application which would substitute for Still River Shell, a DOS file manager which I have been using since 1988 and still use under Win2K. "Never got around to it" which is perhaps a good thing. FAR Manager is "far" more powerful. Lots of keyboard shortcuts, and you need them. The HELP facility is sometimes too cryptic, it doesn't concentrate on what you need to see first. FAR costs $25 to buy (the free eval version lasts for 40 days), but I'm not sure which of the places you can send your money, if any, are still valid. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Valdimir, Writing plugins for FAR shouldn't be hard. I do really prefer to work with Total Commander. The latest version is 6.03. Drop me an e-mail for b_aslan at mail dot ru and we can talk on this issue if you want.

I recommended FAR a couple of times here. I use it since 1998. We have also licensed Windows Commandor (now Total Commander). And I would never trade that for FAR. By the time Windwos Commander takes to load I've almost completed the job with FAR ![]() Knuth ------------------ [This message has been edited by Knuth Konrad (edited May 03, 2004).] IP: Logged |

You do so much in 0.1-0.2 sec. ? ![]() I always liked Norton Commander's style file managers. I used File Commander (text based like FAR) on OS/2 and then on Windows for quite a long time; also used NC and then Volkov Commander (also a russian NC clone) on DOS. Bye! ------------------ IP: Logged |

I still use Xtree occasionally (I still do some DOS programming), but have moved over to Ztree in Windows. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Jonathan, FAR is free for xUSSR. Simply it is necessary to enter several cyrilic words in DOS codepage(866) in registration field. Aslan, Konrad, Marco, David, === 2 All, ------------------ IP: Logged |
