It's kind of funny that they refer to the maggots as "free-range larvae" though. I mean, good grief. Are we making quality-of-life statements about maggots now? "I'm sorry Doctor, but unless those maggots have been allowed to frolic freely, I simply cannot have them consuming the dead flesh in my ulcerated wound. It just wouldn't be right, you know?"

> "free-range larvae"

I took that to mean "plain ol' maggots", as opposed to "highly specialized maggots".

Now, if they had said "Amish maggots" or "Organic maggots"... that would be different.

Eric,

> National Institutes of Health: etc .....

I know all these things, I spent about 6 hours reading the pros and
cons of colloidal silver but the disinformation has come from both
sides and it has tended to follow from ignorance on both sides.

From outrageous claims on one end to incorrectly targetted criticisms
on the other end the value lies with the evidence when appropriately
targetted.

Roughly this distinction. Colloidal silver is supposed to be a suspension
of positively charged silver particles in water but much of what has
been sold and correspondingly criticised fails for a number of well
understood reasons.

Water impurity produces silver salts which very seriously degrage
the quality of the result and the silver salts accumulate under
the skin of people who ingest quantities of the result for extended
periods with the corresponding skin discolouration but it needs to
be noted that even under these very unsatisfactory conditions, the
discolourations are not harmful.

The vast majority of European royalty suffered from varying degrees of
the condition due to the use of silver utensils for food so you get
the term "blue blood" but it also tended to protect them from things
that killed ordinary people.

In reference to the examples as in the following,

> Silver has no known function in the body.

Neither does flouride, penecillin, iron suppliments, historical
information on herbs and other naturally occurring substances yet
humans have found uses for these things over time without having
to refer to notions of what the body has known functions for.

Sliver is used for the treatment of burns but it also has the advantage
that it will kill a vast number of dangerous organisms so you tend
to find it available in things like bandaids and bandages as its
topical use is known to aid healing of skin from a variety of
problems related to infections.

Face with an infection from one of the ever increasing drug resistent
strains of bugs where you had the choice of dying from either
the infection or the side effects of ever more powerful anti-biotics
or alternatively turning blue from using an impure form of silver,
you would turn blue any old time.

Fortunately enough has been known for a long enough time to be able
to produce colloidal silver without the impurities so the historical
skin discolourations don't occur any longer.

Now this does not mean that silver based products will cure the AIDS
epidemic, global warming, bullet wounds and major traffic accidents
but it does mean it has a place where anti-biotics are progressively
failing as bugs mutate to ever more resistent strains.

You can find a lot of pics (with maggots included) with Google:

There's also a very informative video on YouTube (about 40 min.):
