The following list are books are related to Windows programming.

If you have any recommendations not on this list, please post them to the BBS or email the details to
support@powerbasic.com and include a rating or summary if possible.

Highly recommended

1. Charles Petzold
"Programming Windows" Edition 5, ISBN: 1-57231-995-X
"Programming Windows 95" Edition 4, ISBN: 1-55615-676-6
"Programming Windows 3.1" Edition 3, ISBN: 1-55615-395-3 (Note: this one is for the 16-bit edition only!)

The best book(s) to start with - highly recommended. Example
code is in C, but the plain SDK-style used translates readily
to PB/DLL. Edition 4 is often available at cut price and
contains much of the same information as Edition 5.
Most of the code in the book has been translated to PB/DLL by
a PB/DLL customer and he has graciously provided this work
as-is. You can download his work from...

2. Rector and Newcomer
"Win32 Programming", ISBN: 0-201-63492-9

Another highly recommended book, delving deeper than
Petzold. Covers much of the ground of Petzold, but
especially good on the standard GUI controls (Button, Edit,
etc), and also covering many nuances of these controls.

Noteworthy:

1. Dan Appleman
"Visual Basic 5.0 Programmer's guide to the WIN32 API", ISBN: 1-56276-446-2

Not highly recommended but noteworthy. While the book is
written for 32-bit VB programmers, suprisingly little of the
book is readily usable - Useful for reference only.

We have been notified by a customer that the following book was deemed to be unsuitable for inexperienced Windows programmers:

Windows 98 Programming Bible
Reason given: "It is aimed at C++ developers and the use of The MFC. There is very little of use to an API programmer.
