Thanks Elias, and to everybody who has replied.

I'm picking up the basics already which is good news, considering I've only been working on it for a couple of days.

I have something already which is quite functional, but doesn't yet serve a purpose until I add more to it.

Hmm.

'Functional but doesn't serve a purpose'

I know what I mean anyway.

I do believe that for people coming from QuickBasic or PB Dos,
the Console Compiler is excellent.

It keeps much of the dos style text programming while giving you
the opportunity to use api, common, com and more calls used in
PBwin programming.

With Contools and Graphics tools you can even make the console
program emulate a pbwin window.

The best part and the overwhelming joy of Power Basic for windows
for me has been the unselfish help that so many give in this forum.
Technical as well as expert users are always willing to help and show
one the error of their ways LOL.

I have found so far that most of the subs/functions that are not
GUI related; that is, for example, read/write files can be used
or converted almost without change.

Once you get the hang of the callback, things get easier though
there is still a lot for many of us to learn (at least for me).

Yup! For me that is a major selling point with most programs I buy. So much so that I talked the company I now work for into setting up a user to user forum on their website for our DRM product. It's been a big help in cutting down on support e-mails, and I enjoy running and maintaining the forum.
